SR Connection!!!

Be Part of SR Connection!

SR Connection is an ad-hoc committee of the Alumni set up on 4th October 2008 to work with the college for SRJC’s 20th Anniversary Celebration in 2009.

The objectives of SR Connection are:

1. To work with the college to plan the 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

2. To work with the college to ensure Alumni participation in the programmes for the 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

3. To reach out to former SRJCians and staff to attend the 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

4. To grow the SRJC Alumni Association through the process and by connecting with former SRJCians attending the 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner

Based on the objectives, we are looking for people to join 4 teams, namely:

a. The Celebration Team

b. The College Connect Team

c. The Alumni Connect Team

d. The Outreach Team

The Celebration Team will be looking into possible programmes involving the Alumni during the 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner. For example, a Lion Dance performance or a Chinese Drum performance.

The College Connect Team will be looking into possible programmes involving the Alumni at various events building up towards the 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner. For example, having an Alumni Mass Dance at the 2009 JC1 Orientation.

The Alumni Connect Team and the Outreach Team are both marketing the 20th Anniversary Celebration Dinner and other programmes building up to the dinner. However, the Alumni Connect will target former SRJCians who are already in some groupings, eg the Student Council Facebook group, while the Outreach Team will target former SRJCians who may not be included in any groupings.

The SR Connection will meet every first Saturday of the month, 10.00am, at SRJC’s Conference Room.

It is our wish to link up with as many former SRJCians as possible through this 20th Anniversary Celebration. If you would like to play an active part in the committee, do write to tan_aik_fong@hotmail.com. If you have any suggestions for us, do let us know too.

Yours sincerely,

Tan Aik Fong

Chairman of SR Connection

President of SRJC Alumni Association

a Recap

HI peeps!

Sorry that I haven't been updating. Pardon my holidays, and the procrastination that extended from my hols. :P

Anyway, the meeting on Saturday with the Principal was a nice one. About 15 people came. Though it was quite a little, we were not surprised at all. We saw it coming so we're happy that at least 2 new people came. They are the older batches. Pardon me but my memory wasn't that good so i didn't manage to rmb. but 1 boy and 1 girl. ok...male and female.

We had a tour around the school, and there definitely had alot of changes! the art room at 4th floor, the library, the lab besides the staircase near the fish tank, the 'fish tank' the com lab 2, the walls, the rooms of SC...and UNCLE HENRY'S bookstore!!! wow! It's beautiful! BUt..i tot it's a little depressing and lack of emotions. cos it's grey. But it's nice overall!

After that, the principal tallked to us. He wants the Alumni to be in the minds and hearts of the school and students. He wants alumni to be present and visible.

To help the school, we need SRJCians to come back to help their family. Henceforth, Principal wished that Alumni can be the home where ex-SRJCians can come back to provide their service.
Spirit of Giving will be the one we all wish to foster.

BTw,

Kayakking Orientation programme was cancelled due to very little pple participating. But don't be sad cos there will be a 1 star course coming up!

NOt to forget Photography skills for free if we sign up with FaceBook SRJC Alumni group!

English Tea vs. Holy Volley and Will I am

It was settled that ex-srjcians will meet the current Principal, Mr Tan for a lovely tea session on the 28th June, 10.00 a.m. It is a saturday morning and i'm sure that everyone will have a wonderous time with him, probably reminiscing the old times and exclaiming at the new school renovated, etc.

Honourable, we have a new Chapter Head for Volleyball. He's none other than Jeremy Wong from SRJC batch of 2005! *applaude* We are very happy that a new face joined the alumni. We must congratulate him for being the brave one to start the new chapter- Volleyball. He is a very enthusiastic person, and we believe that he will give us more liveliness with his participation in VolleyBall.

Talking about that, he is arranging for a Volley ball match for this chapter this SATURDAY, that is...7th June, 2008. Interested people, please email us @ serangoonjc_alumni@yahoo.com.sg, or if your enthusiasm caught you, contact Jeremy immediately @

BLK 816, TAMPINES AVE 4

You can also read the SUNDAY TIMES orbituary section, of the Alumni's collective condolences for Miss Jenny Yong.

May she rest in peace.

In Loving Memory of Miss Jenny Yong

Do we remember the humble and our virtuous second principal of SRJC from 1997- 2002,Miss Jenny Yong?

She served the school wholeheartedly and gave her best in teaching our students.
Now that i'm about to announce this dreadful news about her, i felt my heart wrenched and it is such a great pity. How i wish i'm not the one to announce this news.

Yesterday, 18th April, 2008, Miss Jenny Yong, our former second principal passed away peacefully. She fought hard against the cancer and she had been very brave.
Now that she's gone, she's gone peacefully. Here, we should all mourn for her for 1 minute and share our sympathies with her family. May she rest in peace.
The alumni has collectively posted our condolences on the papers. Should anyone have any words to say, they are free to do so.

In loving memory of Miss Jenny Yong. Thank you for being such a great principal and motivation to us all.

20/03/08 Alumni meeting

I'm terribly sorry that i couldn't find a time to update but now that i'm here, i'll cover the agenda for last week .

Thurs 20/3/08, 7.52pm

Yee Lee is supposed to update the friendster, facebook as well as the blog about alumni and its upcoming AGM date and place.

we talked about making jackets and be sold to the students as a form of school's identity and part of the money could be incorporated into Alumni. This also signifies that, students could be alumni members AUTOMATICALLY without having to pay any fees like we did before. In case no one notice the word 'could', it would mean that this suggestion's great but is still under the consideration by the school as well as the Alumni association in Singapore ( i know it's not this name but a place( ROS?) that oversees the legality of alumni activities and related stuff like money$$$, positions, funding, CONSTITUTION!!! Yes, constitution cant be change unless there's at least 300 peaple(pea...). LOL! yes, we dun even have that amount of peaple yet.

To be frank, the alumni is rather small ...like a pea. LOL!!! all right! Enough of my lameness.

We will also be having the real lockers in school to safeguard our alumni stuff. Not big but small. We're starting small before we can do big things.... :D

We might also consider Thomas Tan, Our founder of alumni to attend the AGM and maybe the alumni meeting, so to act as a motivating personnel and a live signboard for people to come and join the alumni.(like i said before, students COULD be alumni members automatically)

The principal's idea of professionalism was transmitted to AIk Fong and me through Mr Edson that we had to have a proper webpage for the alumni. The logo of Alumni is currently undertaken by the Arts teacher, Ms Mun?( i'm terribly sorry, but i just keep forgetting her name though she's unique)

We're also considering in getting all the top students, president of all cca leaders and SC to attend the 20th Anniversary Reunion dinner in SRJC. The reason was to have a representative of all the years and so on. that was also an idea by The Principal.

However, we could have a tea session with them before the real reunion...and it could be in May? That is still under the process of approval.

We are proposing some Endowment Fund so we can help students?? It's just a suggestion. It's yet to be confirmed.

personal thoughts of the SRACC head

previous 2nd last post was the results from the Singapore Canoe Marathon held on 27th January 2008. Below was Lee DeMing's personal thoughts about the Canoeing Marathon.

"On the 27th January 2008, 11 members of the SRJC Alumni Canoeing Chapter (SRACC) competed in the inaugural Singapore Canoe Marathorn 2008. Despite the short notice, all 11 members who have not paddled for a considerable amount of time, made full use of the 2 weeks grace to train hard for the race held at the Kallang Basin. All of us did our best for the SRACC and 4 of our members did us proud by attaining a Gold and a Bronze medal. Despite being the shorter distance category (14km) made available in the SCM08, all of us faced competitiors of equal or better preparedness for the race. Faced against adversity to paddle 14km in the shortest time possible, it was through our mental strength and endurance that our team could yield such results.

It is of my pleasure to honour our four achieving canoeists: T2 14km Mens 3rd Position - Low Kah Meng and Lee Hong An

1st Position - Tay Liang Kiat and Wang Wei Liang

As members of the SRACC and ultimately members of the main SRJC School Alumni, we would be banking on these landmarks to further our training motivation to bring forth more achievements and honour to the SRJC family in the long run. The feeling of the announcer reading: "1st position, from SRJC ALUMNI......." is truly, simply, priceless. Regardless of age, gender, batch, interests, we were all brought together under one school, one family. So lets all do our best in our own way to show our gratitude and love for our school, SERANGOON JUNIOR COLLEGE!!!!

Alumni is a platform where you can help the school in a more structured way as well as more, recognised.    I am sure that whatever you have done for the school, you would appreciate that the school knows you and would gratify you for your invaluable help.    A fine example would be our ex-srjcian LEE DEMING, who was from canoeing, now competes, as well as informs the canoeing team of the school latest competitions. DeMing as well as other members of the alumni got first in some categories of the canoeing competition.

Review of last meeting and information of AGM

Sorry People that i'm updating so late. Or perhaps latedating?!

The meeting was interesting esp with P's inspiring introduction that was filled with vision and passion. well, from his disposition i can sense that he's got great leadership but...with an added opinion of a lowly minion here, i couldnt accept that stress he casted over the school if i were to be in that school of transition. However, with the newbies in the school from PAE and JAE soon-to-have( i believe, esp when i no longer have any contact with the young generation), the new blood will find his style a new inject to the old school myth( that sr's urgh.  Ahem! pardon me!) LOL~ all right, enough of my fantasy which was derived from the inspiration by London based movie, Sweeny Todd, a perfect horrendous yet romantic movie. btw, the songs about Joanna was lovely and i was hooked on

OKAY! After his speech, we discussed about this year being the 20th anniversary of SRJC establishment will be a year that alumni can prepare special things for alumni as well as the school. it was said that the reunion dinner would be held in the later part of the year too. Upcoming event by SR would be the SRJC Musical at Republic Poly. i'm not that sure of that musical whether it's free or not, but probably, an email to the school would answer your query.
also, the  "Thanksgiving day" would another event that many would look forward to because it's actually college day and ithere would be great performances! YAY!!!
For the 20th Anniversary, it was said to have a fund raising event or something else which will be discussed on this coming sat's meeting. As for the upcoming A LEVEL results announcement, it was said to be after CNY. yes i know many people would be hugging huge hope when they receive their report book. Some would be sad and some would be overjoyed. Some would cry and some would call their loved ones to report their happiness. As for some, they would leave the school in quietness, asking what went wrong and whether they should feel relieved that they scraped through, or should they be sad that they cant go anywhere. May God Bless everyone
it was discussed that the upcoming A lvel examination, the alumni would like to give the J2's something lucky to wish them good luck for the exams.

APRIL 19, 2008, Saturday, 2PM would be alumni's AGM. it is an opportunity for everyone, and anyone to come to join the SRJC Alumni family! if there's any questions, you can come forward to us, at
serangoonjc_alumni@yahoo.com.sg

New Year New event!

Happy New year and Happy Chinese New Year to all alumni members as well as those who are reading this post.

This coming meeting will be a first one in the year 2008. It will be a special one as the Principal of SRJC will be attending it for the first time. I believe he will be very happy to meet the alumni members at the meeting for the first time. In addition, it will be a fruitful meeting as the principal will be there to provide us with his insightful suggestions.

The meeting will be held in School's Conference Room on Thursday January 31, 2008 at 7.30 PM

I would like to take this opportunity to represent the Alumni in thanking the Principal, Mr Tan for appointing three teachers to be in the Alumni Affairs committee to help out with the alumni. His help is greatly appreciated.

I would also like to thank the teachers for helping us despite their busy schedule with teaching.

The three respectful teachers are,

1) Mr Kok Wai Tong

2) Mr Kwang Ah Moor &

3) Mr Edson Ng Li-Chun
